Never leave a room empty-handed.
There is almost always something that needs to be put away, thrown away or moved to a different spot. For example, when leaving the kitchen, grab that book that you need to put back on the bookshelf in the family room. When you walk out of the family room, pick up the sweater that needs to be hung up in the bedroom. When you leave the bedroom, carry the hamper full of clothes to the laundry room... and on and on and on. It reminds me of the children's book: "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie." Such a simple tip, but it has helped me keep up with the constant stream of stuff that flows through my house!
